Art Reflection

        Art; you may think of this as gorgeous, brilliant pictures portraying the scenary of the background of infinite pastures or a picture detailed in every fine point. What is art though through your eyes and how can you truly define it?  The previous week we were first introduced in what art is and debated if The Simpsons was art. The debate tought us how many philosophers defined art and how something could truly be, from their eyes; a masterpiece. The demonstration by Jordan and a thorough explaination by Mr.Summers taught all of us that art is always within us and everyone is a living piece of art. What struck me the most was the possibility of absolute silence and how even when its reached, you must take account you are a living mammal and your blood is flowing and heart is beating. A musician defined this as his own art and stood still not moving an inch; the audience in response departed not acknowledging the point he is bringing. Everyone is an artist and no one can truly define what art is because everyone has their version of art; accepted by others and rejected by many. The last following class periods, we heard everyones songs and their interpretation of the beauty of art reflected within it. This tought me the meaning that their are many forms of art more than just a visual picture and how music brings the hidden emotions and stories told behind the music. Many students in our class talked about how the music was a story of their dreams, desire, memories, future goals, and drive in defining who they are. Luke's song from the artist Beach Boys really struck me the most out of everyone because it was the only song in my opinion that showed that modern music and rock can not compete against classical music and how true talent and potential was reached by the musical himself and not their dependence with technology and pre-recording. Music has heavily evolved since the 1950s and the Beach Boys is an example of art that came from the heart of every single musican who sang that song. In conclusion, this song project taught the importance that music can also be added as a form of art and their shouldn't be a label in what art is but exploring beyond the box and thinking how everyday life can be connected to art and how no one should criticize you in what art is.

2) What is the role of censorship in our society?
-School authorities face great complexities and inevitable challenges. For example, in films, music and the internet which became less child-friendly and many parents responded by blocking sites.
-In history: propaganda and the use of censorship in the German empire. Schools played an important role in spreading Nazi ideals. Some books were removed and newly written stories were brought to the students to teach children to love Hitler.
-censorship and nationalism: "un-German" foreign movies/ all related to the western world.
